About Dorrigo Rainforest
Dorrigo Rainforest is the entryway to Dorrigo National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. You can explore the rainforest canopy on an elevated boardwalk to the Skywalk Lookout. The views from the lookout are absolutely breathtaking.
Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is the ideal place to discover this ancient World Heritage wilderness and its magnificent bushwalking trails and many interesting birds and animals.
Another option is the Walk with the Birds Boardwalk, located near The Glade picnic area on the edge of the National Park. Elevated above the forest floor, this walk offers unique forest views and close-up birdwatching opportunities.
An hour west of Coffs Harbour along the Waterfall Way, Dorrigo is a scenic country town located on the Northern Tablelands, 730m above sea level. It is the gateway to Dorrigo National Park. This friendly and well resourced village is a great base for exploring the many splendid natural attractions, including lookouts, waterfalls and invigorating walks in the spectacular rainforest.
Within the township, you’ll find a number of dining options including restaurants, cafes and great pub food. There are also some interesting shops to explore from designer labels, high-street fashion, special gifts, to ’emporium style’ and antique shops.
Two kilometres north of Dorrigo town centre is Dangar Falls, a beautiful 30-metre waterfall set amidst scenic agricultural and dairy farmland. There’s a viewing platform, picnic tables and a walking trail that leads to the river at the bottom of the waterfall. The viewing platform offers a great vantage point and an excellent location for photographing the falls.
It’s a good hour’s ride to get up to Dorrigo from Coffs Harbour, so you’d need a minimum two hour tour to visit this area. You’ll pass through Bellingen on the way, so a three hour tour would allow you to do some extra sightseeing on the way there or back. It’s a beautiful location and well worth taking the time to explore some of the many options.
