About Bellingen Township
The riverside town of Bellingen is nestled between the coast and the Dorrigo Plateau. Bellingen is alive with cafes, markets, galleries, festivals and events and is renowned not only for its natural beauty, but also its abundant arts and crafts and diverse lifestyles.
The main street of Bellingen exudes a village atmosphere with a rich architectural heritage. The Hammond and Wheatley building in the centre of town dates back to the early twentieth century and is still in operation today, trading in fashion and homewares. Well worth a visit. Right next door is the Federal Hotel, a great place to stop for a meal or just some light refreshments.
Along with this wonderful history you’ll find rural stores, healthy lifestyle options, an amazing diversity of cafes and restaurants, even an award winning Gelato bar.
The Old Butter Factory
Also rich in history, The Old Butter Factory houses a variety of shops including Cargo Lane, a leather store, woodcraft gallery and the Nexus Community Art Gallery. The Old Butter Factory Cafe has plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the golf course or indoors beside a cosy wood fire in the winter.
Waterfall Way Scenic Drive
Leaving Bellingen and heading up to Dorrigo, Waterfall Way traverses open woodland and farmland and then winds steeply through the lush rainforest of Dorrigo National Park to a height of 750 metres at Dorrigo Mountain.
Depending on your starting point, the Trike Tour could take you from Coffs Harbour or Urunga into Bellingen. A stopover in Bellingen is well worth the time to explore some of the many options, or you could continue on along Waterfall Way to Dorrigo and Ebor.
Bellingen is located about a 30 minute ride south of Coffs and then it’s another 30 minutes up the mountain to Dorrigo. You would need to plan on at least a 2 hour tour to do the round trip from Coffs to Dorrigo, or at least an hour to travel from Coffs to Bellingen and back.
